B.W. Furlong & Associates is hiring two surgeons to join our team, as we prepare to move into a brand new, custom designed facility. You will have the support of a large, collaborative team of veterinarians, all the equipment, facilities, and staff that you need to practice gold standard medicine, and an established client base with the means to support that level of care.
Who are we?
B.W. Furlong & Associates was founded in 1982 by Dr. Brendan Furlong, and has steadily grown from a one man operation to a practice of 19 veterinarians and over 40 support staff and technicians. The practice includes a veterinary hospital, imaging center, surgery center, and rehab center in Oldwick, NJ, an imaging center and office in Wellington, FL, and ambulatory services offered in Oldwick, NJ, Ocala, FL, Wellington, FL, and in other seasonal locations.

Where are we?
New Jersey is the east coast’s best kept secret, with our headquarters located in the idyllic countryside of Hunterdon County. The area offers easy access to New York City, Philadelphia, and the Jersey Shore along with hundreds of miles of hiking, biking, and riding trails and endless outdoor activities. Most staff live within a 30 minute drive of the practice and are able to commute without taking major highways. For those raising a family, a number of schools in the area offer award winning school systems.

What will you be doing?
B.W. Furlong & Associates is looking to add two surgeons to our veterinary team, based out of our New Jersey hospital. Our horse population is primarily sport horses, and our practice has an established reputation for excellence in lameness, advanced imaging, and rehabilitation. The ideal surgeons’ clinical interests would align with one or more of these fields, to supplement their surgical caseload.
We have a strong network of referring veterinarians that have trusted us with advanced imaging and rehabilitation for the past decade. We are working to expand our hospital services to this same network, and have seen steady growth over the past several years in these areas. We believe that an expansion of our surgical team is an important step in supporting this continued growth.
You will soon be working in a brand new facility, on which we have recently broken ground. This new hospital will include 30+ stalls, two surgery suites with two recovery boxes, Hallmarq standing MRI, Qalibra CT, nuclear scintigraphy, a 4-stall isolation building, a covered arena for lameness evaluations, and an 8-stall rehabilitation facility. In the interim, you will be working between our well-equipped hospital and a separate surgical facility for elective procedures.
The ideal candidates will have exceptional interpersonal skills to help foster relationships with our current team of clinicians and our network of referring veterinarians. Our current surgical caseload is approximately 35% emergency, 65% elective, with significant room for growth in both areas in this region.
On-call would be limited to surgery only, and shared with the other associate surgeon, with supplemental coverage from local relief surgeon(s) as available. Surgeons are not asked to admit emergency cases into the hospital - they are only called to come in when surgery has been deemed necessary by the admitting clinician.
Board-eligible surgeons are encouraged to apply, and we are willing to adjust scheduling to accommodate your study requirements. All candidates will be required to obtain a New Jersey license as well as DEA/CDS licenses as applicable.
