The Department is within the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences and oversees the Animal Disease Research and Diagnostic Laboratory (ADRDL); which includes various diagnostic sections including Molecular Diagnostics, Food Safety, Virology, Bacteriology, Clinical Pathology, Histopathology and Serology. The ADRDL is a member of the Food Emergency Response Network (FERN), FDA Genome “Trakr” Program, Veterinary Laboratory Investigation Response Network (VetLIRN) and the USDA National Animal Health Laboratory Network (NAHLN) and works collaboratively with other faculty of other disciplines. South Dakota State University is the state’s largest, most comprehensive higher education institution. As South Dakota’s Morrill Act land-grant university, SDSU had a fall 2018 enrollment of 12,107 students. There are ongoing efforts to bring a greater global perspective to the campus to increase diversity.
