WE’RE HIRING! Located in the heart of the Central Valley, Valley Animal Center’s clinic is an established practice looking to grow! We’re currently seeking veterinarians and RVT’s interested in joining our wonderful team of hardworking professionals who are open to growth and care extremely for our community.
Valley Animal Center is a private nonprofit organization dedicated to uniting dogs and cats with loving people. We primarily help homeless animals and ensure animal care for even the lowest income demographic. We believe that income should not be a barrier to access of quality care and service. In addition to our state-of-the-art clinic and surgery annex, we have our dog and cat adoption centers and beautiful, membership-based dog park. Our clinic care staff works closely not only with our community pets but also our shelter animals and shelter staff.
Our current veterinarians have over 40 years of shelter and medicine combined! We are not just a spay/neuter clinic but also offer comprehensive care and surgery to our clients. Our clinic team has access to ultrasounds, digital x-rays, dental radiography, and amazing, full in-house lab machines and radiology equipment. Our clinic is a relaxed and professional working environment, and we look forward to having you on the team! You’ll be working alongside a clinic team that has been established for over five years and is continuing to grow every day!
We offer flexible hours/shifts, part time or full time, Monday through Friday out by 5:30 p.m. (with a lunch hour between noon and 1 p.m.), sign on/moving bonus, competitive salary, benefits, and Continuing Education stipends.

A veterinarian for Valley Animal Center is responsible for working alongside 2 other veterinarians to continually develop and maintain day-to-day operations of the Spay and Neuter Annex, Wellness and Vaccination Clinic and for the non-profit, no-kill shelter, including but not limited to: (1) diagnosis and treatment of cats and dogs within our shelter (2) able to provide affordable preventative care for cats and dogs, as well as help those in need of minor treatment.; (3) surgically sterilizing animals for adoption and animal owned by the public (4) providing health, wellness and preventative education to the staff and the community (5) performing emergency surgical procedures as required; (6) providing leadership, direction, guidance and training for veterinary support staff and other shelter staff.
Responsibilities
The ideal candidate will have excellent veterinary and supervisory skills and the ability to help build and work within a cohesive and positive team, which will be customer-service and animal oriented. She or he will be a self-starter who is well organized, innovative, flexible and professionally motivated to develop and implement the goals, objective and policies of the clinic and our shelter. The ideal candidate will have exceptional interpersonal skills that can build bridges with the community and must be an effective communicator with the ability to speak to a variety of audiences. He or she will work well with other veterinarians, licensed technicians, and clinic support staff, in addition to full team of shelter employees and volunteers. Responsibilities will include but are not limited restricted to the following:
- Monitor the conditions of animals in the shelter and address any conditions which would warrant care.
- Perform physical exams on animals upon intake and as needed, diagnose and prescribe treatment for sick and injured animals.
- Perform high volume spay/neuter surgeries and additional surgery as necessary on client and shelter animals. Additional surgeries include but no limited to dentistry, enucleations, exploratory laparotomies, tumor removal, amputations, etc.
- Provide emergency medical care as needed.
- Provide leadership, direction, guidance and training of veterinary technicians and other support staff.
- Maintain comprehensive medical records for medical management and surveillance of illness within the shelter.
- Adhere to comprehensive health care program with the following components – environmental sanitation, record-keeping, disease surveillance, physical examinations, vaccination, parasite control, disease testing, disease treatment, surgery nutrition, outbreak response, and environmental enrichment for animals in the shelter and in foster homes.
