TWO positions available in a 5 veterinarian, all large animal, all ambulatory practice in rural western NY. Work is 70% equine, 25% dairy with a small amount of other livestock species. Because this is a multiple veterinarian practice daily workload can be adjusted to meet species preferences. Practice area covers all of Erie County and parts of Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, and Wyoming Counties. Equine clientele is quite varied from world class competitors to backyard horse owners and Amish farmers. The Bovine work is largely dairy farms from tiny to 1500 cows. There are some smaller beef operations also.
Springville is within 30 miles of the city of Buffalo, the second largest city in NY, and a medium sized city offering sports, waterfront, good food and the arts. Buffalo is experiencing a resurgence after years of decline. Many people travel the highway from Springville and farther, to Buffalo for work and recreation. Springville itself is a small town of 4500 people in a rural setting, with small shops, galleries, and eateries as well as the strip of fast food places car dealerships and big box stores. Much of our equine work is in the suburbs between Springville and Buffalo.
Our office is a rented space on Main Street. It is far from fancy, but fits the purpose. There are two full time office personnel one of which is a licensed veterinary technician. Another technician splits time between the office and calls on farm. We also have one part time fill in person.
Practice vehicles are all 4 wheel drive pick ups, because it snows around here in the winter. Cusom drawer units are heated and have coolers for storage. Vehicles go home with the veterinarians at night. Each truck has an ultrasound unit and power dentistry equipment. Candidate must be willing to cover services to all species listed at least on an emergency basis. Emergency call is one night per week and one weekend out of five. DVM or equivqlent. We are a five veterinarian ambulatory large animal practice in western NY. Our case load is 60% equine, 40%dairy, with small amounts of swine and small ruminant. Our equine clientele varies widely from backyard pet owners to international competitors. The practice in its current form was started in 1994 and has grown greatly since then mostly based on equine work.
