Summary Orient, train and guide veterinary technician interns (VTIs) & other LVTs during rotations on the clinical floor. Provide practical, side by side training in the application of their academic knowledge in a clinical setting. Teach & train exemplary nursing and technical skills in multiple departments including surgery, ICU, Internal medicine and other clinical areas within the hospital
Effectively teach a variety of clinical of skills necessary for patient care
Teach, mentor and support LVT’s in the clinical application of academic knowledge
Works side by side with VTIs providing one on one insights, guidance, coaching and mentoring
Train LVTs in hospital protocols, treatments and technical duties
Sunday-Wednesday 10am-6pm or Wednesday-Saturday 10am-6pm
Must have NYS Veterinary Technician’s license, VTS preferred
Minimum of 3-5 years nursing experience as an LVT in clinical environment performing, basic & advance nursing skills
Ability to lift and restrain animals weighing up to 50 pounds
Ability to establish and maintain effective, respectful working relationships
Must be able to work successfully as part of a team
Ability to remain composed in stressful and emergency situations
Ability to communicate clearly with clients, technicians and vets
Flexibility to accommodate shift work in a unit that is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
Coordination of the nursing and technical care of patients from admission to discharge
Assist with CE
Address and support quality and service issues
Participate in committees and other projects as assigned
