Philosophy of Internship: Our internship program is designed to provide graduate veterinarians with knowledge and experience that will ultimately prepare them for clinical practice or a residency program. This program provides both hospital and ambulatory experience. Upon completion of our internship, our interns have experienced many aspects of equine medicine, including surgery, advanced imaging technology, diagnostics, alternative medicine, dentistry and reproduction. Special emphasis is placed on providing each intern with mentors in every area of veterinary medicine. Our staff veterinarians and interns meet weekly for rounds to share case studies and present each other with challenges, support, and medical updates.
Internship Duties: Interns are placed into a 2-week rotational program which rotates them throughout all the veterinarians of the practice. Interns are also assigned to emergency rotation as primary or secondary on call. Interns are responsible for assisting with cases and hospital care of inpatients. As the intern becomes more proficient the amount of responsibility and autonomy is adjusted accordingly.
Graduate of veterinary program and be eligible for licensure in Wisconsin. An externship at WECH is strongly recommended. Please email Dr. Adriana Silva if you are interested in applying. Email your CV and letter of intent to firstname.lastname@example.org. Mail 3 signed letters of recommendation to our hospital address or ask references to email Dr. Silva directly.
